2012 Plainfield Garden Tour Art Auction

This year the Friends asked people to submit their artwork in a contest to be used on the Garden Tour tickets. There were so many wonderful submissions! The winners were:

  • First Place: Olivia Roath
  • Second Place: Carol Mongan
  • Third Place: Barbara Harris
  • Under 12 Winner: Audrey Havenor

The artwork is now on display in the library, and you’re invited to purchase it! The starting price for each piece was selected by the artist, and is listed in the book in front of the large display case. Bidding will end May 31st, at which time the winning purchasers will be contacted by phone.

Money from both Garden Tour tickets and the Art Contest Silent Auction directly benefit the library. Have you ever attended a program at the library? If so, you’ve benefited from our Friends group! Friends money helps support library programming, including speaker fees, supplies, and snacks.

Gold Star Books

If you have been in the Children’s Room lately, you probably had to walk around our shiny new display, the Gold Star Books. We put it where most people walk to make it hard to miss…… as if all the gold stars won’t catch your attention!

It is stuffed with staff picks. By looking at the bookmark inside, you can see which staff member recommended it.  A few of the books won awards, some are our top favorites, and the rest are books that make us say, “Oh, I liked that one, I want someone else to find it!”  If you read one, let us know what you think about it!

Thank You, Barnes & Noble!

Barnes & Noble has been a great supporter of the Plainfield-Guilford Township Public Library throughout the past several years. They donated overstocked books to the library as well as Plainfield’s Kids’ Summer Lunch Bunch at Franklin Park and Gladden Farms. In November of 2011 the library partnered with the notable bookstore on Black Friday to raise money for the library, too.

Most recently Barnes & Noble chose the library as the recipient of its annual Holiday Fundraiser where customers purchase books for the library. The library received over 1,150 brand new books to add to the collection! We were so overwhelmed by the donation from the bookstore and the community. As a thank-you we took the cards from the books and put them on display in the windows of our library for everyone to see. Come check it out!

Thank you to Barnes & Noble and our library supporters! We appreciate your generosity!
